Student Stories

Students of diverse backgrounds and disciplines have come through our doors. They dedicate months of time and effort into preparing for and applying to internationally and nationally competitive fellowships. Some have received awards. Some have not but learned about themselves through the process. They used the skills, knowledge and drive gained through this experience to get accepted into graduate school, Peace Corps, and other opportunities that have enriched their lives. Here are a few of their stories.

Six Mizzou Undergraduates Awarded Gilman Scholarships

Gilman International Scholarship, a program designed to enable students with financial barriers to study or intern abroad. The scholarship aids recipients in developing skillsets critical to our national security and economic prosperity. Trusting the Process

The past year has been one of growth and self-discovery for Jenny Park. It’s also been a year of celebration for the University of Missouri senior. Park began the year by being named a Goldwater Scholar. One of four Tigers to receive the award, the Goldwater Scholarship is one of the most prestigious national scholarships in natural sciences, engineering and mathematics in the United States. Park is ending the year with another illustrious honor – she was named a finalist for the Rhodes Scholarship.

While the Office of Global and National Fellowships at the University of Missouri helps students across campus secure funding for a variety of unique experiential learning opportunities, there is a deeper mission to the office’s work.
