[top] AAUW Community Action GrantDescription: This grant provides seed money to individual women, AAUW branches and AAUW state organizations, as well as local community-based nonprofit organizations for innovative programs or non-degree research projects that promote education and equity for women and girls.Eligibility: There are three different types of grants for which you can apply: AAUW branch and AAUW state organization applicants, Local community-based organization applicants, and Individual research project applicants. The criteria for each is slightly different, but the applicant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Award: A one-year grant for $2,000 - $7,000; or a two-year grant for up to $10,000. Description: University of Missouri Extension is currently seeking AmeriCorps*VISTA members to work with Missouri communities and University centers on community economic and entrepreneurial development projects for one year, beginning April 2008. VISTA members live and work with communities to mobilize one or more strategies:
VISTA members team up with local staff and are part of a statewide network of VISTAs and other professionals working in entrepreneurship and enterprise development. Amount: VISTA members receive a living allowance, health insurance, childcare assistance, relocation allowance, paid training, and are eligible for a $4,725 education award to apply toward student loans and/or tuition and educational expenses in the next seven years. Housing subsidies may be offered by some project sites. Deadline: Candidates are encouraged to apply immediately and must be available for Pre-Service Orientation by April or July 2008. Indicorps' programs are designed to build principled leadership, empower visionaries, inspire collective action, and unite India towards a common vision for the nation by productively engaging Indians around the world with the development of the country that defines their identity. It aims to strengthen non-profit organizations in India. Indicorps recognizes that building capacity within local Indian organizations is essential to sustainable change. By placing fellows with small, high-impact grassroots organizations, Indicorps aims to bring new skills and perspectives to our partners. Indicorps offers internship and volunteer opportunities year-round. InternXchange: A New Summer Program in Berlin for American Journalism StudentsDescription: DAAD has developed this unique new program to provide outstanding young journalism students with an opportunity to immerse themselves in the society, culture, values, and political attitudes in Germany. During this time of transition and change in transatlantic relations and the German-American relationship, this program will expose American students with a particular interest in Germany to the changing global political circumstances on location in Germany. Eligibility: Applicants should be students at a college or university in the United States. Students should either be enrolled in a school of journalism or be majoring in a journalism-related field. Applicants must have German language proficiency at least equal to the advanced intermediate level. Applicants should also have a demonstrated interest in Germany and German affairs, i.e. an awareness of current political news coverage of Germany in the American media, and general familiarity with German history, culture and society. Applicants should already have had first experiences in practical journalism. Amount: Recipients get a monthly stipend of 650 Euros for the duration of their stay in Germany, 350 Euros towards the cost of international transportation to Germany, health and accident insurance. More info: DAAD InternXchange website [top] MURAP Paid Summer Research InternshipDescription: The Moore Undergraduate Research Apprentice Program (MURAP) invites applications for a ten-week paid summer research internship for undergraduate students (rising juniors or seniors). The program will be held from May 25 -July 31, 2008 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The MURAP program seeks to prepare students from racially and ethnically diverse backgrounds, or those with a proven commitment to diversity, for graduate study and academic careers in fields in the humanities, social sciences and fine arts. The program provides students with a rigorous research experience under the guidance of UNC faculty mentor. Amount: Each student participant will receive: a stipend, paid campus housing, daily meal allowance, weekly writing workshops, free GRE prep course, paid domestic travel expenses (up to $500). [top] The Pearson Student Advisory BoardDescription: Leading educational publisher Pearson Education is seeking bright, motivated college students to be a part of the Pearson Student Advisory Board program from June 2008 – June 2009. As a student board member, you will have an opportunity to provide a fresh, informed perspective as we shape new publishing programs and implement alternative business models. Eligibility: Students must not be graduating before May 2009 and must be taking courses at a college in the U.S. Students at two-year colleges must have successfully completed at least a year of course work before June 2008. Students at four-year colleges must be in their sophomore or junior years at the time of application. Amount: Resumé-building, real-world experience – before graduation, an exciting, all-expenses paid summit with senior Pearson executives (June 2008), the chance to develop a network of valuable contacts, a stipend and complimentary copies of Pearson textbooks, and the opportunity to collaborate with other smart, ambitious students – and to make a lasting, positive difference in the world.
